Archives

The archive of photographs has been collected from a variety of sources. We are not aware of copyright on any of the images but are happy to acknowledge it if this is not the case. Aside from the monochrome archive there is a brand new gallery that captures the incredible array of insects, flora and fauna found on one Challacombe farm. The photographs Flora & Fauna Gallery...were taken by local naturalist Sue Kneen who has identified and catalogued this diverse range of Exmoor life.

Panorama

To the casual eye the village consists of a pub, post office and a few isolated farms. Hidden from view is a modern village in old clothing. Now see the village as never seen before. An almost aerial view of the village can now be seen by downloading the panorama. The Panorama... was produced on a windy November afternoon in 2006 at very short notice. It was shot with a Nikon digital camera above Weirscombe, resulting in sixteen overlapping shots that were welded together in Photoshop. To view the panorama you will either need to download the DevalVR plug-in or go to the QuickTime version or Flash version links below. The plug-in has been exhaustively checked for bugs and spyware and is safe to download; users will need to enable Javascript & Active X components. A small menu in the bottom left hand of the downloaded panorama screen allows for incremental zooming, along with other tools. By right clicking on the panorama there are other options available, including a viewfinder that will zoom in on a particular area of the panorama whilst maintaining the focus of the rest of it. Please be patient whilst downloading as this is a large file. The original started life as a nearly 300mb image file that was eventually condensed down to about 5mb. A broadband connection is advised to view the panorama. An alternative download in QuickTime is now available. Please click the following link QuickTime Panorama... click on your left mouse and take a near 360 degree spin through Challacombe. Press F11 for full screen - press F11 again to return to normal view mode. Alternatively download the Flash Panorama... here. Right click on the landscape and keep zooming in to bring it into focus and then pan round manually.
